Boots for long rides?

Just wondering if I should put any kind of boots on Jenny when riding long distances?
Am doing rides of about 15 -20 miles several times a week doing a lot of trotting on bridlepaths, riverbanks and some rough ground.
Any advice please?:dizzy:

Not unless she has a problem, and is brushing or banging herself!;)

My mare does brush and would hurt herself, so i use brushing boots all round - and I spend my time finding ones that stand up to her, the best so far are Mark Todd 2 strap brushing boots - lasted 120k no problem. The last pair of shires I got, lasted all of 60k and disintegrated!!

Premier equine teflon ones are good too but they have a seam which causes a rub.

Woof boots are good too, just the strike pad doesn't stand up too well to us after a while.:dizzy:

If she is banging herself then use boots, if not, leave alone!

Many moons ago I used to do long distance and never used boots, but didn't have any problems so didn't need to. Under the rules at the time, I recall that you weren't allowed boots (EHPS).
My horse did over 1000 competitive miles and still had good limbs in his thirties, the arthritic hips were another matter. . .

I agree with Glenshee, if there is no specific reason, there's no need.

Well done you for covering those distances so many times a week, Jenny must be very fit:)

We do 25-35km rides quite regularly & are happily barefoot but if we had to do more stony track would think about boots.
