Grass livery - what is included in the price

at your yard?
In May the cost of grass livery will be going up to £87 per calender month. I am seriously hoping to have moved by then but, just out of interest I'd like to know about grass liveries elsewhere. Also does your YO or YM check horses, troughs, fences etc on a daily/weekly/yearly basis??

We have year round grazing with access to the cattle fields in the winter if we need them which is great.

An outdoor arena - when you can get in there - usually full of YO's daughters in the evenings so not much use to those of us who work.

Ad lib hay/ haylage although varies hugely in quality

Tack cupboards/ a rug rack each and a loo

4 covered tie up places for 20 liveries (grass and DIY) - two of these are too short for Sam and his behind sticks out!!

We pay 25 p/w grass livery, they live as a herd on 40acres in summer and 15 in winter with the best quality hay put out daily for them in winter. They are all head counted and checked by two of the ladies who come rain or shine are there every morning and our fab yo's are always on hand for any help or emergency. The rest of us help where we can and check each others horses if need be, nobody charges extra fees and all round the girls and yo's are a godsend.
I don't think about what it costs me for two lol but it enables me to keep the costs down and gives me time to enjoy my ponies without mucking out and having to keep in timing with a yard set up. I can't get there when it's snowy or for child or work moments so I don't have to worry about the boys as know the girls will let me know if any there are any problems. I get fed most days too as the Yo's are very hospitable and always allow us lot to pile in lol :)

I pay £150 a month for my two and I do have one stable. That is completely diy including things that really should be included like fixing the ballcock in the trough which I think I'm going to have to do this weekend as I'm completely fed up with the bog that's developing round it.
Loo is behind a tree/in the stable/cross legs till you get home:dizzy:Shame Essex is a bit of a way or I'd be there too Fleas!

I am at the same place as Fleas and agree that it is a superb place to keep a horse. We also have use of a huge barn or a stable for show or vet purposes. The fences are checked regularly and repaired as and when required. We can go on holiday or whatever with complete confidence that our beloveds are ok. As Fleas said we all check each others ponies and if we can't get there and mention it they will get a "hands on" check over. Our YOs are the most kind and helpful people going.

I pay quite a lot more than you - almost twice as much in winter - but this is for full grass livery which in itself is quite hard to come by and I get an awful lot of 'money couldn't buy' advantages as well as extras like our weekly livery lessons, use of the indoor school, not having to arrange farrier's visits. I am often away for several days every week and sometimes out of the country for days at a time and I know Humph is in the safest of hands. It must be awful to be on an unhappy yard.

I now pay £80 for just over three acres, fenced into three paddocks with a starvation area as well. It has no water so I have to take my own but the owner also will bring it up in his tractor if needed.

Its just next to cannock chase so the riding is good too. It has a large shed on the plot which is used for storage of hay and feed and it has too hard standing areas and on these I can put some shelters or stables if I wish.

Its a complete bargain to me as I was paying £325 per month for the three of them at DIY livery. At the previous yard it would have cost me £60 per horse for a field, access to the forge for shoeing and some tying up. An indoor, an outdoor which is barely useable in the winter and access to the chase. It has water to every field.

Meant to say that the owner does all the fencing and removes the muck if I pile it and he has said I can put up tie up posts and stuff. His family walk down to the field every day with the dogs to check it. Its next door to a lady with a menage so I am hoping to make friends but if not then there is another lady in the village about half a mile away who has offered. Loads of horses about so everyone keeps their eyes open and the local race horse string goes past twice a day.
